Bergamot is a unique citrus fruit which many know from the oil that infuses earl grey tea. This traditional dessert is handmade in small-batches in Greece using pieces of bergamot peel float in a simple syrup of sugar, lemon juice and water.
Spoon sweets are that quintessentially greek accompaniment to coffee, as you're welcomed to someone's home with a spoonful on a small plate.
The bergamot version has a sparkling bright color and crunchy texture that's even better with tea, iced or hot. We love it as a traditional dessert or as a topping for cheesecake, flan, panna cotta, yogurt parfaits, ice cream sundaes. Add it in your chia pudding, or your morning oatmeal, toast or bagel. Makes for a gourmet topping of crepes, pancakes and muffins. You can even jazz up your prosecco or your cheese platters.
Importantly, there are no preservatives, additives, artificial flavors nor colorants.
